The future of XML

Added by Nordnet Simon about 8 years ago

Hi, we are planning to remove the XML replies in the next version of the API.

The next version will hopefully be in production this year but we can't do any promises. The current version (that can generate XML) will run in parallel with the new version for a while so there is no need to do a complete rewrite in a hurry if we choose that path.

The reasons for removing XML is:
- JSON generation is faster (CPU-load on server - the difference are very big at the moment).
- JSON messages are in general smaller than XML (less bandwith).
- Less code and less testcases on the server side -> faster development and shorter time to market with new features.

Today the feeds only supports JSON so all applications needs JSON anyway.

So what are you using? Is removing XML a big problem or are most of you using JSON anyway?

I only use JSON. This seems like a very good idea.
